The Roaring 20’s

Some say that College is their favorite past time. Understandably so with all the mixers, house parties, tailgating and football games. However; amidst my group of girlfriends, our mid to late 20’s have settled right in atop our list of cherished memories. Making a salary in lieu of working on the allotted budget set forth by your rentals’ in college, being single with a crazy date story here and there, developing an advanced palette beyond Sandwiches and Ramon Noodles, it’s like the perfect storm.

As cliche as it is, there is nothing like having that core group of girlfriends. The cities are your playground and with the right wing woman, a little fashion sense, some street smarts, and a tour guide to keep you around all the local hot spots and in the middle of all the best music festivals; who could ask for anything more. Asheville, Nashville, New York, Chicago, Maine and Boston are like treasure chests waiting to be opened and taken advantage of. As a southern woman, what could you possibly be waiting for?

Open since early August, Carrigan’s Public House is quite the swanky meets warehouse establishment. The building structure itself is a 21st Century take on an old English Pub (which is probably why they also call it a Gastropub). The menu hosts a plethora of unique spirits, ales, food and a build your own martini section. The staff was interactive, full of personality and readily available to assist their customers.

This Morris Avenue addition is a must try!

*Just know, they do not have TV’s (so this is probably not somewhere to drag your boyfriend or Dad during a football game).

BB no longer just stands for Bed and Breakfast.
WELCOME Ladies to the world of BB Cream, also known as Beauty Balm. Originated from the East and South East Asian markets, typically they are mineral based and used to cover and treat blemishes. It is known for the illuminating effect it creates allowing your skin to look dewy and youthful.  This cream is exactly what women of all ages have been looking for and I am speaking from experience. Fountain of youth…FOUND!

While several brands have attempted a version of the trending cream, only some have perfected it. Like any new addition to your makeup bag, it is important you find the right kind for your skin. I have found most BB creams are thick and this is great for women who love their foundation; however, if you like minimal coverage there are some brands like Dr. Jart and Clinique (both available at Sephora) that have a light weight consistency. One surprising brand that has topped multiple lists is the Estee Lauder Day Wear BB Cream (available at Nordstrom and Macy’s). After trying it, I found that it is very similar to my personal favorite, Jane Iredale (available at Nordstrom or JaneIredale.com). This cream is thick and I do not wear heavy makeup, so I dilute it with hint of water and covers perfectly. The coverage is perfect and everything goes on smoothly over it.  Both products have a slight fragrance to them at first that does fade.

If you are convinced into venturing the world of BB Creams, I would start with the brands that you trust or use on a consistent basis. Enjoy finding your Fountain of Youth and be sure to let me know what you think!

Canadian Tuxedo Comeback…

Blue Jean Baby takes on a whole new meaning for Fashionista’s. Officially, the Canadian Tuxedo has made its move back into the limelight. According to countless blog posts, street style snaps and runway fashions, comfy blues from head to toe, officially should remain a staple in your wardrobe. As we move from summer into fall (you know, the awkward fluctuation of mediocre temperatures), it’s all about blue jean cut off shorts or a great fitting pair of flair leg denims matched with a long sleeve, rolled up and button up blue jean shirt. To accentuate this look; Sassy tribal heels or booties and statement jewelry.

LEATHER be a Lady...

From Moto Jackets to paneled leggings; Leather is one fabric the runways and street style icons are not ready to shed. “Moto” is short for Motorcycle and the 2013 take bestows an array of styles suitable for most every occasion. From Sienna Miller to Sarah Palin, all genres of women are finding this trend irresistible.
While the options of where to find the Moto Jacket and ride the wave trend are endless, BLK DNM has certainly up the ante by launching the Leather Project X.  This online site headquartered in New York allows men and women to custom build a truly one of a kind leather jacket. Various leathers, warm hues, multiple textured shearlings it’s a one stop shop to build something unique to your personal style.
For the instant gratification fashionista’s, here is a list of four of my favorites I’ve recently spotted and available in a range of price points. From classic to rock star there is a Moto for everyone!
Winter white is so clean and creates that perfect finish to most any outfit, even in the form of leather. Here Katie Holmes is wearing a winter white moto that can be found at the one and only Kohl’s and is currently on sale for $72.!
Macy’s Bar III has a colarless leather jacket that is available in many different hues. Here is a link to it in black. It’s my personal favorite with an upswing cut back that makes this jacket easy to pair from t-shirts to dresses.
Paneled, funky and with a hint of prep, this Leather Crepe Moto Jacket by 3.1 Philip Lim is every inch of unique. Mixed with black and cinnamon, I am a little obsessed with the peplum siding along the right of the zipper. Very Cute!
With a real rock star edge, this has spiked gold shoulder detailing in black faux leather, not to mention it’s the perfect price point. Originally spotted on pinterest (duh) it’s ultimately available at Forever 21
